Villa Castelletti

History of Villa Castelletti

According to some testimonies, the construction of the villa dates back to the beginning of the fifteenth century under the patronage of the Strozzi family.

Throughout the centuries the villa has passed through various illustrious owners such as the Lapi family, the Uguccioni and the poet Guido Cavalcanti, a friend of Dante Alighieri. The Cavalcanti family expanded the structure of Villa Castelletti by adding two lateral bodies and, on the central body, the second floor and the Altana which is the symbol of Villa Castelletti.

From the second half of the nineteenth century, thanks to Count Leopoldo Cattani Cavalcanti, the property became a model estate following various interventions and cultural initiatives such as the foundation of the Istituto Agrario Filantropico.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the estate passed to the Montagliari’s, of Germanic origin. The Villa is now owned by the Allegri di Signa family and the town of Lastra a Signa, and is part of the Montagliare S.r.l. company.

Villa Castelletti hosts a variety of public cultural initiatives such as the award ceremony for the literary prize Mario Luzi, organized for schools.
